What is BENG?
BENG stands for Nearly Energy-Neutral Buildings and shows how energy-efficient a building is. The calculation is an important part of the design and permitting process.
Three clear performance requirements
The BENG method assesses buildings in three areas: energy demand, primary fossil energy use and the share of renewable energy. This provides a complete picture of energy performance.
Required for new buildings
Since 2021, BENG requirements have applied to almost all new buildings in the Netherlands. A sound calculation demonstrates that the design meets the applicable legal energy performance requirements.
